How is ISCC PLUS different from ISCC EU?

  • ISCC EU: Is a certification system for biomass, biofuels and biocomponents, meeting the requirements of EU directives (RED II and FQD). It focuses on sustainable development in the context of EU regulations.
  • ISCC PLUS: Is a voluntary system, used for products and materials outside EU regulations, such as chemicals, food, feed or packaging materials. It covers a wider range of materials and markets than ISCC EU.

Why ISCC certification?

  • It enables verification of the sustainable origin of raw materials and traceability of the supply chain.
  • For ISCC EU: It is necessary to participate in the biofuels market compliant with EU regulations.
  • For ISCC PLUS: It ensures transparency and trust among customers in non-regulated markets.

  • ISCC PLUS: Covers a broader scope, including waste, plastics and chemicals.

What materials can be certified?

Are GHG calculations mandatory?

  • Yes, in ISCC EU: Mandatory according to RED II requirements.

What is PoS (Proof of Sustainability)?

  • PoS is a document confirming the sustainable origin of the raw material and compliance with ISCC requirements.
  • It contains information about the raw material, GHG calculations, mass balance and the status of the sustainable material.

What are the responsibilities of companies in the ISCC supply chain?

  1. Supply chain tracking: Ensure transparency and compliance with ISCC rules.
  2. Mass balance: Maintain accurate mass balance records.
  3. GHG reporting: Calculate and report emissions data, where applicable.
